Mubasher: Qatar’s gross domestic product (GDP), in fixed prices, increased 2.2% in the third quarter of 2018 on annual basis, data released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) showed on Thursday.
GDP for Q3-18 amounted to QAR 210.77 billion ($58.18 billion) versus QAR 206.29 billion ($56.94 billion) in Q3-17, the MDPS said.
Quarter-on-quarter, Qatar’s GDP jumped 4% compared to estimates, while Q2-18 GDP was revised to QAR 202.73 billion.
The mining and quarries sector slipped 0.1% but contributed QAR 98.82 billion to the Q3-18 GDP from the prior year period, while Quarter-on-quarter the segment gained 3.7%.
Meanwhile, the non-mining segment offered a better contribution to the Qatari economy with 4.3% to QAR 111.96 billion in Q3-18 versus QAR 107.36 billion in Q3-17. On a quarterly basis, the increase was 4.2%.
The International Monetary Fund (IMF) previously forecast that the Qatari GDP would grow by 2.7% in 2018 and by 2.8% in 2019.
