Qatar-Oman bilateral trade leaps to $742m in 2017

Mubasher: Trade exchange between Qatar and Oman saw a 42% year-on-year growth last year, recording QAR 2.7 billion ($741.7 million), versus QAR 1.9 billion ($521.9 million) a year earlier.

This reflected the strong ties between Qatar and Oman, vice chairman of Qatar's Chamber of Commerce and Industry Mohammed bin Towar said on the sidelines of the raw materials conference in Muscat.

Not only Qatari businessmen should import Omani goods but also invest in the Omani ports, bin Towar added.

The top official noted Qatari businessmen have the opportunity to build partnerships to establish projects in Oman, particularly in Sohar Port, Salalah and Duqum, which is one of the major projects.

Qatar is one of key importers of Oman's gabbro, sand, and limestone, due to the huge construction projects in the world's richest country per capita ahead of the 2022 World Cup, which will pave the way for further cooperation in this field, he continued.

The raw materials conference aims to reinforce trade ties between Qatar and Oman in the raw materials production and export sector, creating a platform for communication between companies and businessmen in both countries, in addition to bolstering mutual investments.

The relationship between both countries has notably developed, especially after four Arab countries cut their diplomatic ties with Qatar last June.
