Qatar Petroleum eyes energy talks with China firms

Mubasher: Qatar Petroleum officials are looking to conduct deals with major Chinese firms operating in the energy sector.

The company’s president and CEO Saad Sherida Al Kaabi headed a delegation that is set to hold talks with chief executives of companies including China National Offshore Oil Corporation (CNOOC), and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC), a statement by Qatar Petroleum showed.

Other companies, Al Kaabi, who doubles as chairman of Qatargas, will convene with include China Petroleum & Chemical Corporation (Sinopec), Beijing Gas, in addition to other large institutions.

This is deemed one of the most important visits, especially as China “leads the drive behind” the rising global energy demand, Qatar Petroleum said, citing the growing cooperation between China and Qatar, the world’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG).

Earlier this month, Qatar Petroleum announced that it would exclusively handle marketing and distribute crude oil in the global markets, in addition to launching Qatargas.

In 2017, Qatar established the first direct shipping line between Hamad Port and Shanghai.
