Doha – Mubasher: The recent advances seen in Qatar’s construction market, particularly those related to the upcoming 2022 FIFA World Cup, will offer opportunities to local small- and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) at the upcoming Moushtarayat conference slated to be held in 2017, The Peninsula Qatar reported.
Business opportunities related to the mega football event exceed QAR 1.4 billion ($380 million).
This three-day exhibition, hosted by the Qatar Development Bank (QDB) and the Ministry of Finance, will include the participation of the main contractors building five host stadiums for the first FIFA World Cup in the Middle East, under the auspices of the Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy (SC).
The five stadiums are Al Wakrah Stadium, Al Bayt Stadium – Al Khor City, Qatar Foundation Stadium, Al Rayyan Stadium, and Lusail Stadium.
The main contractors who will be working on the construction of these five stadiums will attend to find partners that can contribute to a successful delivery of the infrastructure for the upcoming tournament.
“As progress continues across Qatar to deliver the necessary infrastructure for the 2022 FIFA World Cup, we’re very happy to offer local small- and medium-sized enterprises the opportunity to take part in these exciting projects, which will leave a lasting legacy for the surrounding communities,” Ghanim Al Kuwari, SC competition venues executive director said.
“The main contractors building five of our stadiums are looking for local partners, with projects that have an added value of QAR 1.4 billion,” Al Kuwari added.
The top SC official further highlighted that in line with Qatar’s National Vision 2030 and the National Development Strategy, the SC aims to help transform Qatar’s economy by offering “tangible opportunities” to local businesses, which can contribute to the significant construction in 2017 and in the coming years.
The first stadium which is expected to be completed in 2017 is Khalifa International Stadium, while eight of the proposed venues remain at various stages of construction.
Companies working on projects for the 2022 FIFA World Cup that will attend the Moushtarayat conference include MIDMAC, a company that, in a joint venture with PORR QATAR, is building Al Wakrah Stadium, a 40,000-seat venue
Qatari contractor HBK Contracting Co. W.L.L. (HBK) and China Railway Construction Corporation Limited (CRCC), also a joint-venture, and Qatari contractor Al Balagh Trading & Contracting and India’s biggest construction firm titled Larsen & Toubro Ltd, the main contractor for Al Rayyan Stadium, are among the attendees at the exhibition.
