Qatar banks’ assets hit 5M low in April

Mubasher: Assets owned by banks operating in Qatar dropped 2.97% month-on-month in April 2018, hitting an all-time low since October 2017 after five straight rises, data released by the Qatar Central Bank (QCB) showed.

Assets reached QAR 1.35 trillion ($371.75 billion) last month, compared to QAR 1.39 trillion ($383.15 billion) in March 2018.

Banks’ assets rose 3.46% year-on-year in the previous month, against QAR 1.30 trillion during the same month a year earlier.

Qatari banks’ loans retreated 4.6% to QAR 794.26 billion in April, versus QAR 832.54 billion in the comparative period of 2017, the central bank's data showed.

Meanwhile, banks’ reserves grew 0.5% to QAR 36.86 billion in April, from QAR 36.67 billion in the previous month.
