Qatar imports $10.5bn transportation equipment for 2022 World Cup

Mubasher: Qatar’s imports of transportation equipment increased by 20.25% year-on-year during the first nine months of 2018 in preparation for the 2022 World Cup, according to recent statistics conducted by Mubasher.

Qatar has imported equipment worth QAR 37.82 billion ($10.48 billion) in the nine-month period ended September, compared to QAR 31.45 billion ($8.71 billion) in the same period of the previous year.

Imports of transportation and machinery represented 43.7% of the GCC country’s total imports of QAR 86.53 billion in the period between January and September.

In the first quarter of 2018, the Persian country’s imports of equipment and machinery amounted to QAR 12.19 billion, while imports in Q2-18 and Q3-18 registered QAR 12.37 billion and QAR 13.26 billion, respectively.

Qatar is expected to receive around 1.5 million visitors during the 2022 edition of the tournament, being the first Arab state to host such event.
