Qatar inflation rises 0.2% in March

Doha – Mubasher: The Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics stated that the consumer price index (CPI) increased 0.2% in March 2017, reaching 108.6 points compared to the previous month and 0.9% compared the same period last year, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA).

Four segments went up, led by transportation with an increase of 1.5%, followed by entertainment and culture by 0.7%, clothing and footwear by 0.4%, and restaurants and hotels by 0.1%, according to the agency.

In contrast, the food and beverages group recorded a decline of 0.6%, and the housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels group fell 0.4%.

On a year-on-year basis, five groups increased, led by transportation with 8%, education with 3%, furniture and household appliances, and other goods and services with 1.4% each, and clothing and footwear with 0.2%, according to QNA.

On the contrary, six groups declined, led by restaurants and hotels with 2.8%, followed by entertainment and culture with 1.6%, housing, water, electricity, gas and other fuels with 1%, food and beverages with 0.4%, health with 0.2%, and communications with 0.1%. The tobacco group remained stable.
