Doha – Mubasher: Qatar’s Ministry of Transport and Communications (MOTC) launched a new direct maritime route between Qatar and India for the transport of goods, according to Qatar News Agency (QNA) on Wednesday.
This new route links between Hamad port in Qatar and Mundra and Nhava Sheva ports in India, QNA added, citing the Qatari ministry as stating.
The vessels will arrive at Hamad port every Friday, with the first shipment including 710 containers.
Qatar has been seeking to find ways to break the economic embargo imposed on it by Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Egypt, and the UAE after the countries decided to cut ties with Qatar last week, accusing it of supporting terrorism. This included blocking Qatar’s access to land, sea, and air ports.
Qatar has hence worked on establishing alternative air and maritime routes with other countries, such as Turkey and Iran.
