Doha – Mubasher: Qatar’s finance minister said that his country may not issue international bond this year because of the recent rises in global oil prices, which have boosted state revenues.
"We may not issue a bond this year given where oil prices are - right now we are close to break-even" minister, Ali Sherif Al-Emadi, said added, according to Reuters.
Al-Emadi noted that Qatar will not use the assets of its sovereign wealth fund to cover its deficit, so that by doing so, the government will achieve better fiscal discipline.
Qatar’s budget deficit surged 607% to reach QAR 5.1 billion in the third quarter of 2016 compared to QAR 721,000 in the year-ago period.
