Qatar non-oil exports hit $5bn in 2017

Mubasher: Qatar’s non-oil private-sector exports reached QAR 18.1 billion ($5 million) during 2017, according to Qatar Chamber’s monthly report.

The total value of non-oil exports dropped 13% year-on-year to QAR 1.3 billion in December 2017, the report showed on Monday.

Non-oil exports of the private sector slid 27.6% month-on-month in December from QAR 12.8 billion a month earlier.

The report ascribed the decline to a drop in industrial gas and gas oil exports.

Non-oil exports of the world’s biggest exporter of liquefied natural gas (LNG) were destined for around 61 countries in December, up from 53 the previous month.

These countries included 12 Arab nations along with the GCC states, 13 European countries along with Turkey, 14 Asian countries excluding Arab peers, 19 African countries, and three countries in South and North America, according to the report.

Oman remained the key GCC markets for the Qatari exports in December 2017 with a total value of QAR 454.8 million, followed by Hong Kong and Turkey with QAR 196.9 million and QAR 107.3 million, respectively.
