Qatar oil, gas exports not affected by Arab boycott – Tamim

Mubasher: Qatari Emir Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani said that Qatar’s oil and gas exports have not been affected by the Arab boycott started in June 2017.

Qatar’s exports grew by 18% during the full-year 2017, and the government slashed spending by 20%, Al Thani revealed on the sideline of his speech before the Shura Council of Qatar on Tuesday.

“The security and stability of our Gulf and Arab states will not be achieved by seeking to undermine the sovereignty of States or interfering in their internal affairs, but by respecting the rules governing relations between them and working to resolve disputes through dialogue that is in the interests of all concerned parties,” Tamim said.

He added that the Gulf crisis has revealed the failure of the GCC to achieve its objectives.

Qatar will continue working on developing oil and gas industries as it is keen to preserve its status as the top liquefied natural gas exporter in the world, he said.

“The State of Qatar will continue to be an active actor and supporter of all efforts to resolve differences, confront the challenges and dangers that surround the Arab and Islamic nations and deal effectively with issues and problems that threaten international peace and security,” the emir added.

It is worth noting that the country’s value has preserved its value since the beginning of the Arab rift, and the country was able to overcome the impact of the imposed sanctions by Arab nations around.

Since 5 June 2017, Qatar has been facing outflows of foreign customers' deposits after four Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia cut their diplomatic and trade ties with the gas-rich state, accusing Qatar of financing terrorism. Doha forcefully denies the charges.
