Qatar’s CPI falls 0.3% in May 2018

Mubasher: Qatar's Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) on Monday announced that the consumer price index (CPI) declined 0.3% month-on-month in May 2018.

Meanwhile, Qatar’s CPI rose 0.5% year-on-year in May, according to MDPS’s recent report.

The ministry ascribed this drop to discounts of Islam's holy month of Ramadan on a slew of commodities.

Over the previous month, five main groups went down topped by the food and beverages with 1.5%, followed by housing, water, electricity and gas by 1.1%, miscellaneous goods and services by 0.3%, furniture and household equipment by 0.1%, the data showed.

On the other hand, prices across other groups increased, led by the transport by 1.9%, followed by clothing and footwear by 0.1%.

Tobacco, health, communication, education, and restaurants and hotels groups remained flat at the last month's price level.

Moreover, the CPI of May 2018, excluding housing, water, electricity and other fuel groups, stood at 108.5 points.
