Qatar's CPI rises 0.9% YoY in January

Mubasher: Qatar's Ministry of Development Planning & Statistics (MDPS) on Wednesday announced that the consumer price index (CPI), an inflation measure, rose 0.9% year-on-year in January 2018.

The CPI’s year-on-year increase was due to the price rise across seven main groups topped by transport which jumped 8.8%, followed by food and beverages with 5.8%, health with 5.3%, and clothing and footwear and miscellaneous goods and services, which hiked 3.8%.

Moreover, the CPI increased 0.4% to 109 points in January from 108.3 points in December, data released by the MDPS showed.

The CPI’s month-on-month growth was encouraged by the increase in the prices of five main groups topped by health with 2.2%, followed by clothing and footwear, transport, furniture and household equipment and miscellaneous goods and services, which levelled up 1.9%, 1.1%, 0.8% and 1.1%, respectively.

Meanwhile, prices across four other groups declined, led by the food and beverages segment with 1.1%, followed by recreation and culture with 0.6%, restaurants and hotels with 0.2%, and education, which went down by 0.1%.
