Qatar’s PPI hikes 21% in November

Mubasher: The Producer Price Index (PPI) of manufacturing hiked 21% year-on-year in November 2017 to 60.8 points, Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said on Saturday.

The PPI covers three main components, comprising mining with 72.7%, manufacturing with 26.8% and electricity and water with 0.5%, the report stated.

The hike of PPI of manufacturing was attributed to the growth of the mining sector with 20.8% year-on-year as crude oil and natural gas advanced 6.9%, the data showed.

Manufacturing prices surged 22.8% on the rise of seven groups, topped by the basic metal with 31.1%, followed by refined petroleum products with 7.27%. While the group saw the drop of four groups led by the cement and other non-metallic products with 7.3%, the ministry’s data added.

Meanwhile, prices of the electricity and water group levelled up 5.9%, as electricity prices soared by 8.4%, and water prices rose by 2.7%.

Moreover, the PPI went up 6.1% month-month in November, encouraged by the growth of mining, manufacturing and electricity and water by 6.9%, 4.9% and 2.7%, respectively, according to the ministry’s report.
