Qatar’s PPI hikes 36% in June – MDPS

Mubasher: Qatar’s producer price index (PPI) jumped 35.6% year-on-year to 70.4 points in June, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said.

The manufacturing index of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter consists of three main components, namely mining represents 72.7%, while manufacturing, electricity and water account for 26.8% and 0.5%, respectively.

The statement attributed the rise to an increase in the mining segment by 41.1%, while the manufacturing sector and natural gas levelled up 41.2%, the ministry said in a statement released late Monday.

The industrial segment rose 25.8% year-on-year in June due to the increase in subgroups, namely the manufacture of refined petroleum products, which rose 35.7%.

Meanwhile, prices of the electricity and water segment went down 2.7%, as water prices declined by 8.2%, while electricity prices advanced by 3.1% during the month.

On a monthly basis, Qatar’s PPI levelled up 4% to 70.4 points in the sixth month of this year, compared to 67.7 points in May.
