Qatar’s PPI rises 3% in January

Mubasher: Qatar's manufacturing Producer Price Index (PPI) increased 3% year-on-year to 106.6 points in January, Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said on Monday.

The PPI covers four main components, which are mining, which accounts for 83.6% of the index, manufacturing with 15.2% and electricity with 0.7% and water with 0.5%, the report stated.

Manufacturing PPI growth was attributed to a 3% year-on-year rise for each of the mining and manufacturing sectors, the data showed.

Manufacturing prices increased on the back of the rise of five main groups, topped by grain mills and other products with 20.6%, followed by chemical products with 5%.

Meanwhile, three other groups suffered a decline in February, led by the cement and other non-metallic products with 8.9%, followed by the rubber and plastic products with 2.7%, and juices with 1.9%, the ministry’s data showed.

Production of the electricity sector levelled up 3.8%, while the water sector's declined 3.7%.
