Mubasher: Qatar’s Pearl gas-to-liquids (GTL) plant has operated at a reduced production rate since 30 November, a Shell spokesperson said on Wednesday.
The production declined on the back of closing production GTL Train 2.
“We have GTL products in stock and Pearl GTL Train 1 is running to plan,” the spokesperson noted, adding that this output reduction would not impact customers.
It is worth mentioning that the Pearl GTL plant, which opened in the first quarter of 2011, has 24 reactors, weighing 1,200 tonnes apiece, each of which contains 29,000 tubes full of Shell’s cobalt synthesis catalyst, which speeds up the chemical reaction.
On the long-term, the plant is expected to process around 3 billion barrels of oil equivalent of gas.
