Mubasher: Qatar’s holdings of US debt instruments witnessed a 2.1% month-on-month growth in January.
The gas-rich nation’s long-term holdings amounted to $1.20 billion in January, from $1.18 billion a month earlier, the US Treasury Department said.
Year-on-year, Qatar’s holdings of US government bonds leaped 269.02%, from $326 million in January 2018.
Saudi holdings of US government bonds came in at the first place among Arab countries, logging $166.6 billion, followed by the UAE with $56 billion and Kuwait which made up $40.7 billion.
Globally, China was the top holder of US Treasuries with $1.13 trillion, followed by Japan and Brazil with $1.07 trillion and $305.1 billion, respectively.
US government bonds went up 1.6% to $6.3 trillion in January, from $6.2 trillion in the same month a year earlier.
