Mubasher: Deposits at banks operating in Qatar decreased by 1.4% month-on-month in October, according to the Qatar Central Bank’s (QCB) data on Monday.
Total deposits amounted to QAR 806 billion ($221.4 billion) in October, compared to QAR 817.9 billion ($224.7 billion) in September.
On a yearly basis, deposits at the Qatari lenders increased by 1.5% in October, compared to QAR 794.3 billion in the same month a year earlier.
The drop in deposits was attributed to a 1.7% decrease in non-residents’ deposits to register QAR 167.1 billion last month, versus QAR 170.01 billion in the same period of the prior year.
Qatar’s private sector deposits levelled up 0.7% to QAR 490.3 billion in October, against QAR 486.8 billion a month earlier, while public sector’s deposits plunged 4.5% month-on-month to QAR 490 billion.
Deposits of non-financial institutions in the gas-rich nation levelled down 5.9% to QAR 25.2 billion in October, compared to QAR 26.8 billion during August.
