Qatar’s bank deposits grow 2.5% in September - QCB

Mubasher: Deposits at banks operating in Qatar increased by 2.5% year-on-year in September, according to the Qatar Central Bank’s (QCB) data on Thursday.

Total deposits amounted to QAR 817.85 billion ($226.78 billion) in September, compared to QAR 797.83 billion ($221.23 billion) in the same month a year earlier.

On a monthly basis, deposits at the Qatari lenders increased by 1.3% in September, compared to QAR 807.34 billion in the previous month.

The rise of deposits was attributed to a 19.08% jump in non-residents’ deposits to register QAR 170.01 billion last month, versus QAR 142.77 billion the same period of the prior month.

Qatar’s private sector deposits levelled up 1.97% to QAR 486.8 billion in September, against QAR 480.4 billion a month earlier, while public sector’s deposits grew 0.8% month-on-month to QAR 304.3 billion in September.

Deposits of non-financial institutions in the gas-rich nation levelled up 7.6% to QAR 26.8 billion in September, compared to QAR 24.9 billion during August.
