Qatar's emir, Exxon Mobil CEO discuss 'cooperation' – QNA

Doha – Mubasher: Qatar's emir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad al-Thani has met with Exxon Mobil Corp chairman and CEO Darren Woods in Doha on Saturday to discuss a possible "cooperation", Qatar News Agency (QNA) reported.

The meeting comes less than a month after a political rift emerged between several Gulf and Arab countries and Qatar.

The rift has raised concerns about a possible shortage in energy supplies and global access to the country's liquefied natural gas (LNG), particularly after some Gulf states announced that they would not allow Qatari-flagged vessels to pass.

Earlier this month, Saudi Arabia, the UAE, Egypt and Bahrain announced cutting diplomatic, trade and transport links with Qatar, accusing it of supporting terrorism and allying itself with Iran. Qatar has denied these allegations.

"During the meeting, they discussed bilateral cooperation relations and means to develop them in addition to the latest developments in the energy sector," QNA said.

Apart from meeting with Woods, the Qatari emir convened with ExxonMobil Qatar's general manager Alistair Routledge at the Al-Bahar Palace.

Over the past decade, Exxon has helped Qatar become the world's largest LNG exporter.

Earlier in June, Exxon reported that LNG production and exports were unaffected by the political rift.

While working with Qatar's state-controlled energy firm Qatar Petroleum (QP), US-based Exxon has invested in LNG-processing plants, transport ships and related infrastructure.
