Mubasher: The Producer Price Index (PPI) of the Qatari manufacturing sector surged 16.6% year-on-year to 66.1 points in February 2018, Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said on Sunday.
The PPI covers three main components, namely: mining, which accounts for 72.7% of the index, manufacturing with 26.8% and electricity and water with 0.5%, the report stated.
The PPI rise is attributed to an increase in three main groups. The mining segment levelled up 19.1% on the back of price hikes of Crude petroleum and natural gas by 19.19%, according to the ministry's data.
Manufacturing prices increased owing to the rise of eight main groups, topped by basic metals with 22.3%, the ministry showed.
Prices of the electricity sector levelled up 5.1% due to an 11.5% jump in electricity prices, while water prices declined 4.1%.
Month-on-month, PPI reached 66.1 points in February 2018 versus 56.7 points in the same month a year earlier.
