Qatar’s industrial sector PPI hikes 18.7% in January

Mubasher: The Producer Price Index (PPI) of the Qatari manufacturing sector hiked 18.7% year-on-year in January 2018, registering a 5.9% month-on-month rise to 66.1 points, Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) report showed.

The PPI covers three main components, comprising mining with 72.7%, manufacturing with 26.8% and electricity and water with 0.5%, the report stated.

The PPI surged on the back of the growth of the mining sector with 20.8% year-on-year as crude oil and natural gas advanced 6.9%, the data showed.

Month-on-month, the mining segment rose 7.6%, boosted by the increase of crude oil and natural gas prices by 7.6% in January.

Manufacturing prices increased 3.1% month-on-month in the first month of 2018, on the rise of four groups, while two groups saw a drop and five group kept stable.

On the other hand, electricity and water sector went down 2.5% as water prices slid 9.1%, and electricity prices levelled up 2%.
