Qatar's industrial sector PPI rises 14.8% in October

Mubasher: Producer price index (PPI) of the Qatari industrial sector rose by 14.8% year-on-year or 57.3 points in October, compared to 49.9 points in the same period the year before, according to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

The general PPI includes three main components: Mining accounts for 72.7%, while manufacturing, and electricity and water make up 26.8% and 0.5%, respectively.

The PPI surged on the back of the growth of the mining sector with 11.8% and manufacturing with 21.1%, encouraged by price increases of six major groups topped by basic metals, refined petroleum products and basic chemicals which surged 28.1%, 25.5% and 14.7%, respectively, the data said.

Meanwhile, the manufacturing sector saw a drop in five groups’ prices: cement and other non-metallic products tumbled 3.7%, while rubber and plastic products, beverages, paper and paper products and dairy products went down 3.2%, 2.8%, 2.2% and 1.2%, respectively.

As for the electricity and water sector, the PPI surged 10.2% in October due to an increase in water and electricity prices by 14.1% and 7%.
