Qatar’s inflation declines 0.5% in September

Doha – Mubasher: Qatar’s consumer price index (CPI), a measure of inflation, inched down 0.5% in September 2017, compared to the prior-year period.

Inflation in Qatar edged up 0.1% month-on-month, compared to August 2017, according to a report issued by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics on Sunday.

The report mentioned that sectors of clothing, food and beverages, commodities and services, and education recorded a 1.8%, 0.8%, 0.6%, and 0.4% rise month-on-month.

Meanwhile, housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment tumbled 0.7%, transports shed 0.3%, and restaurants and hotels slipped 0.1%.

Additionally, tobacco, furnishings, household appliances, healthcare, telecommunication, entertainment, and culture settled on the monthly basis.

At the annual basis, the report showed that housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment, entertainment and culture, telecommunication, restaurants and hotels, commodities and services, furniture and appliances, and clothing dropped 4.7%, 4.5%, 1.1%, 1%, 0.8%, 0.6%, and 0.5%, respectively.

On the other hand, sectors of transports, food and beverages, healthcare, and education rose 6.1%, 3.6%, 2.7%, and 0.4% year-on-year, respectively.

Moreover, tobacco remained stable on annual basis without any changes.

Qatar’s CPI, excluding the housing, water, electricity, gas, and fuel segment, inched up 0.3% to 107.9 points in September 2017, compared to August 2017, the report highlighted.

Furthermore, the CPI rose 0.8% in September 2017, compared to September 2016.
