Qatar’s inflation drops 1.55% YoY in February - MDPS

Mubasher: Qatar’s consumer price index (CPI) declined 1.55% year-on-year in February, according to a report released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) on Wednesday.

The GCC nation’s inflation dipped to 107.76 points in the second month of 2019, compared to 109.46 points in the same month a year earlier.

The annual fall was attributed to the price decrease of seven segments, topped by telecommunications, which dropped 11.45%.

Meanwhile, the culture and entertainment sector fell 6.49%, followed by the transportation, housing, water, electricity, and gas, food and beverages, clothes and shoes, and restaurants and hotels which went down 2.85%, 2.66%, 1.16%, 0.66%, and 0.13%, respectively.  

On the other hand, the prices of five segments advanced, headed by tobacco, which leapt 127.19%, followed by the education, furniture and home appliances, goods and other services, and health sectors with 9.25%, 1.31%, 0.26%, and 0.10%, respectively.

Month-on-month, the gas-rich nation’s inflation inched up 0.18% to 107.76 points, against 107.57 points in January.

The monthly growth was supported by the increased prices of housing, water, electricity, and gas which edged up 0.28%, while the entertainment and transportation sectors fell 0.78% and 0.75%, respectively.
