Qatar’s inflation grows 0.10% MoM in December - MDPS

Mubasher: Qatar’s Planning and Statistics Authority (PSA) on Monday announced that the consumer price index (CPI) surged 0.10% month-on-month to 108.62 points in December 2018.

The Persian Gulf nation’s CPI retreated 0.29% year-on-year last month, data released by Qatar’s Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) showed.

The CPI’s monthly growth was boosted by the increase in the prices of three main segments last December, topped by recreation and culture which rose 3.92%, followed by transport and miscellaneous goods and services which surged 1.72% and 0.46%, respectively.

Meanwhile, the prices of four other segments retreated, headed by clothing and footwear, food and beverages, restaurants and hotels and housing, water, electricity and gas which fell 8.22%, 2.15%, 0.10% and 0.02%, respectively.

The annual drop in Qatar’s  inflation was attributed to the decreasing prices in five segments, led by communications, clothing and footwear, food and beverages, housing, water, electricity and other fuel, and recreation and culture which declined 11.31%, 5.00%, 3.73%,  2.58% and 1.35%, consecutively.

Meanwhile, the prices of six segments rose year-on-year in December 2018, headed by education, transport, health, furniture and household equipment, restaurants and hotels, miscellaneous goods and services which rose 9.20%, 5.49%, 3.37%, 1.66%, 0.42% and 0.40%, respectively.
