Qatar’s inflation remains flat at 107.6 pts in June

Mubasher: Qatar’s consumer price index (CPI) for June 2016 stayed unchanged at 107.6 points compared to May 2016, but rose 2.5% year-over-year (YOY), according a press release by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

On a monthly basis, three main groups saw a rise; four groups registered a slide; and the others stayed flat.

The transportation led the rising groups with 0.8%, followed by clothing and footwear as well as recreation and culture with an increase of 0.7% each.

On the other side, the prices of food and beverages, restaurants and hotels, miscellaneous goods and services, as well as furniture and household equipment declined by 1.8%, 0.5%, 0.4%, and 0.1% respectively.

Meanwhile, the groups of tobacco, housing, water, electricity and other fuels, health, communication, and education have remained flat at the last month’s price level.

On an annual basis, the ministry attributed this YOY surge to the increasing prices seen in the eight groups, namely: education (+7.1%), recreation and culture (+5.2%), housing, water, electricity and other fuels (+4.8%).
