Qatar’s inflation rises 0.4% in March

Mubasher: Qatar's inflation, based on the consumer price index (CPI), rose 0.4% year-on-year in March 2018.

Inflation increased to 109 points in the third month of 2018 from 108.6 points in the same month a year earlier, the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS) said in a report on Tuesday.

The report ascribed the year-on-year rise in inflation to the net effect of increases in seven main groups topped by the transportation sector which jumped 6.6%, followed by the health and food and beverages segments with 5.3% and 4%, respectively.

Meanwhile, other four main groups witnessed a price drop headed by the housing, water, electricity and gas segment, which declined 5.2%, followed by the telecommunication, recreation and culture, and restaurants and hotels, which levelled down 1.1%, 1.8% and 0.7%, respectively, the report highlighted.

Month-on-month, the GCC country’s inflation decreased 0.3% in March 2018, compared to 109.3 points a month earlier.
