Qatar’s population down 5.7% in one month

Doha - Mubasher: The data of the Qatari Permanent Population Committee () showed a decline in the population by 5.7% month-on-month in June 2017% to 2.564 million.

Despite the decrease in the population last month compared to May, Qatar’s population grew by 2.8% year-on-year, compared to June 2016.

The PPC noted that the population has increased by 24 times since 1970, when it totalled 111,000.

Population growth rates varied since 2009, as it surged 10% in 2015 due to the high demand on foreign labour for the FIFA World Cup 2022, of which Doha dominated 65%, the committee said in its mots recent report.
