Qatar’s trade surplus hikes 45.3% in March

Mubasher: Qatar’s trade balance surplus surged 45.3% year-on-year in March 2018, according to a report released by the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics on Sunday.

The GCC country's trade surplus reached QAR 13.4 billion last month, compared to the prior-year period.

Total exports of the world’s biggest liquefied natural gas (LNG) exporter, including goods of domestic origin and re-exports, hiked 22% year-on-year to QAR 23.9 billion, according to the report.

Year-on-year, exports jumped due to higher exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons such as LNG, condensates, propane and butane, reaching around QAR 14.9 billion in March 2018.

South Korea topped the list of Qatar’s export destinations with QAR 4.4 billion, acquiring 18.5% of the nation's total exports, followed by Japan which made up 16.6% with QAR 4 billion, and India with QAR 2.8 billion.

On the other hand, the Arab nation's total imports rose 1.3% year-on-year to QAR 10.5 billion, the report showed.

The US accounted for QAR 2 billion of Qatar’s imports, followed by China and India, which acquired around QAR 1.5 billion and QAR 0.7 billion, respectively.

Month-on-month, trade surplus of the world's richest country per capita went up 5% in March, compared to a month earlier.
