Doha – Mubasher: Qatar plans to spend about QAR 45 billion on developing tourism products and services, as well as building high standard facilities that create a valuable experience for the tourist, according to local reports on Tuesday.
Qatar's economy minister Sheikh Ahmed bin Jassim al-Thani said tourism is one of the most fixable sectors, an indispensible quality at the time given the recent financial crises in the region, citing the sector’s growth of 4% in the Middle East this year.
During his speech yesterday in Seatrade Middle East Cruise Forum, hosted by Qatar Tourism Authority, the minister added the state’s attention is largely drawn to the sector, which translated into Qatar National Tourism Strategy 2030, a state vision that has already boosted this sector.
The minister also lauded the strong performance by Qatar’s hotels, as the average occupancy rates reached 73% in 2014, compared to 65% in the previous year.
