Qatar to launch 5G technology by end-2018 – CRA

Mubasher: The Qatari Communications Regulatory Authority (CRA) on Monday announced that it has finalised the required preparations for the fifth generation (5G) frequency bands for mobile telecommunications services.

CRA has also prepared preliminary frequency plans to improve its capacity to accommodate more telecom service providers, according to CRA’s statement on its website.

Qatar's telecommunications regulator has identified the frequency bans at 700 MHz, 3.5 MHz and 26 MHz for the 5G technology, the statement added.

“We are delighted that CRA is one of the first regulatory bodies regionally and internationally to announce the readiness of 5G frequency plans,” Mohammed Ali Al-Mannai, president of CRA, said.

By the end of 2018, Qatari telecom service providers would formally start testing the 5G network, and deploy standard commercial networks late 2018 and early 2019.

“5G mobile telecommunications technology services will benefit both, consumers and the service providers alike. It will also help to enhance Qatar’s telecommunications market and sector,” Mannai noted.

The CRA aims at increasing the number of broadband users at the same time, in addition to offering its users higher mount of unlimited data and using high quality streamed media for long periods every day, the statement concluded.
