Mubasher: Qatar has topped its Arab peers in the Global Food Security Index 2018 (GFSI), according to the global food security outlook released by the Economist Intelligence Unit (EIU).
Globally, the GCC country came in the 22nd spot, the EIU data showed.
The Global Food Security Index, which covers a set of 113 nations, takes into consideration the core issues of affordability, availability, and quality.
The index is a dynamic quantitative and qualitative benchmarking model, constructed from 28 unique indicators, that measures these drivers of food security across both developing and developed countries.
The GFSI now includes an adjustment factor on natural resources and resilience.
Qatar’s rank was higher than 91 countries including Italy, Russia, China, Turkey, India, Pakistan, among others, according to data.
It is worth noting the world's richest country per capita was able to overcome the food crises after the Arab blockade in 2017.
Since 5 June 2017, Qatar has been facing outflows of foreign customers' deposits after four Arab countries led by Saudi Arabia cut their diplomatic and trade ties with the gas-rich state, accusing Qatar of financing terrorism. Doha forcefully denies the charges.
