Qatar trade balance surplus hits 39.1% in December

Mubasher: Qatar's balance-of-trade surplus hiked 39.1% year-on-year to QAR 14.9 billion in December 2017, according to the Ministry of Development Planning and Statistics (MDPS).

Last month, Qatar’s total exports, including exports of goods of domestic origin and re-exports, surged 34.5% to QAR 25.9 billion compared to December 2016, the statement showed on Sunday.

The reason behind the year-on-year increase was the higher exports of petroleum gases and other gaseous hydrocarbons, which reached QAR 14.3 billion during December 2017, the data showed.

Moreover, the imports of goods levelled up 28.8% year-on-year to QAR 11 billion in the final month of 2017.

Throughout December 2017, Japan topped Qatar’s export list with QAR 5 billion, representing 19.3% of total exports, followed by South Korea and India.

Menawhile, the US topped the list of countries Qatar imported from with QAR 3.2 billion, representing 28.7% of total imports in December, followed by China and Germany.

The motor cars and other passenger vehicles segment led in terms of imported goods with QAR 400 million, registering a 44.7% drop compared to December 2016, followed by electrical apparatus for line telephony/telegraphy, telephones, and turbojets, turbo propellers & other gas turbines, according to the statement.
