Abu Dhabi — Mubasher: Ras Al Khaimah Tourism Development Authority (RAKTDA) announced signing an agreement with Mantis Group, a South African hospitality and travel conglomerate, to operate a luxury camping project on Jebel Jais, the UAE’s highest mountain.
The deal was signed on Wednesday by Haitham Mattar, CEO of RAKTDA and John Hannah, managing director of Mantis UK, during a signing ceremony at the annual ITB Berlin, the world’s largest tourism trade fair.

The value of the contract was not revealed.
Located at the height of approximately 600 to 700 metres above sea-level, the luxury mountain camp on Jebel Jais will offer visitors spectacular mountain views of the Hajar mountains, and a year-round retreat with temperatures around 10 degrees cooler than the rest of the UAE, RAKTDA said in a statement.
The tented camp, set to be completed in 2020, will comprise a total of 47 luxury units - 34 deluxe tents, 11 one-bedroom tented suites with a private pool, and two two-bedroom tented suites with a private pool, the statement added.
“The launch of the luxury camp project further demonstrates the emirate’s commitment to attracting investments in eco-friendly and sustainable tourism products. Ras Al Khaimah has already made many significant steps towards affirming its position as a sustainable destination,” Mattar commented.
In October 2018, Luxury carmaker Bentley Motors opened the UAE’s highest fine-dining restaurant on the summit of the Emirates’ tallest mountain, Jebel Jais, in Ras Al Khaimah.
Jebel Jais announced last January the launch of a skating rink at 1,300 metres above sea level.
The 150-square-metre synthetic staking rink overlooks the Hajar mountain chain in Oman.
