Riyadh – Mubasher: The Red Sea Gateway Terminal (RSGT) has taken delivery of two state-of-the-art remote-controlled ship-to-shore (STS) cranes and 10 hybrid- -Rubber-Tyred Gantry Cranes (RTGs) with an investment of $35 million.
This comes as part of the latest steps in the planned expansion of Jeddah Islamic Port’s premier facility to double annual container throughput capacity to 5.2 million TEUs by 2023, according to a statement on Sunday.
Commenting on the milestone, President of the Saudi Ports Authority (Mawani), Saad bin Abdulaziz Alkhalb, who attended the ceremony said the launch is an extension to the unprecedented growth and quantum leap the ports sector is witnessing against all odds.
Last year, Mawani inked two concession contracts valued at around SAR 9 billion with DP World and RSGT for the development of container terminals at Jeddah Islamic Port according to the BOT scheme (Build, Operate and Transfer).
These contracts in the Jeddah port will help increase the capacity by more than70% for the two terminals to exceed 13 million standard containers by 2030.
