RTA, DANS ink agreement to regulate autonomous air vehicles project

UAE - Mubasher: Dubai’s Roads and Transport Authority (RTA) has inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Dubai Air Navigation Services (DANS) to support autonomous air vehicle project.

RTA and DANS will also cooperate in studying laws that will regulate autonomous air vehicles and charting out air corridors for air vehicles, according to a press release on Tuesday.

Both entities will also ensure the safety of aerial transport in the geographical perimeters of Dubai by using advanced technologies.

The MoU is in line with the Dubai self-driving transport strategy, which aims to transform 25% of the total transportation in Dubai into autonomous trips by 2030.

Commenting on the agreement, the CEO of the Public Transport Agency and the head of the Autonomous Air Vehicle Project Team at RTA, Ahmed Bahrozyan, said: "The two parties pledged to facilitate the procedures and share information about specialist and advanced firms, test programmes, and the specifications of take-off and landing sites for autonomous air vehicles among others."

The Deputy CEO at Dubai Air Navigation Services, Ibrahim Ahli, commented: "DANS has an innovative culture supported by a team of top air navigation experts; which assures the realisation of our common objectives with RTA."
