RTA completes 70% of Route 2020 construction works

Dubai – Mubasher: Work progress on Route 2020 has reached a 70% completion, state-run news agency WAM reported, citing Mattar Al Tayer, the director-general and chairman of the Board of Executive Directors of Roads and Transport Authority (RTA).

The new extension of Dubai Metro Red Line, undertaken by the Alstom-led Expolink Consortium, links between Nakheel Harbour and Tower Station with the site of Expo 2020.

The announcement took place on the sidelines of Al Tayer’s meeting with Henri Poupart-Lafarge, chairman and CEO of Alstom, France.

Both parties reviewed the progress on the manufacturing of trains by Alstom, covering the supply of 50 trains, divided as follows: 15 for serving Expo 2020 and 35 for upgrading the level of service of Dubai Metro, WAM added.

Al Tayer stressed the importance of complying with the approved delivery schedule of the project.

All rail works of Route 2020 Project are expected to be completed by May 2019 and to be tested by February 2020.

A couple of days ago, state-run utility RTA announced that it has extended its contract with British company Serco to operate and maintain the metro transit system.

Under the AED 680 million contract, Serco will provide operational and maintenance services to both lines of the Dubai Metro, in addition to the under-construction Route 2020
