Cairo – Mubasher: Remittances from expatriate Egyptians climbed by 13.6% year-on-year, or $803.6 million, in the first quarter of the fiscal year 2019/2020, official figures showed on Tuesday.
Money transfers from Egyptians living abroad totalled $6.7 billion in the three-month period ended last September, compared with $5.9 billion in the same period of the preceding fiscal year 2018/2019, the Central Bank of Egypt (CBE) said.
On a monthly basis, remittances surged by 33.2% or $581.2 million to $2.3 billion in September, compared with $1.8 billion in August.
The total figures of remittances in September also marked a 32.8% year-on-year growth or $576.5 million, the CBE said.
It is worth pointing out that expatriate Egyptians have transferred $25.15 billion by the end of the fiscal year 2018/2019, compared with $26.392 billion in the year 2017/2018.
