Remittances from expats in Kuwait hit $15bn in 2016

Mubasher: Remittances from expatriates in Kuwait amounted to $15.3 billion in 2016, said the Statistical Centre for the Cooperation Council for the Arab Countries of the Gulf (GCC-Stat) in report.

While remittances from foreign workers in the GCC nations reached $111.5 billion, the report added.

Remittances of expatriates in Saudi Arabia topped the GCC with $38.9 billion, followed by the UAE with $32.7 billion in the same period, the report said.

Foreign workers' remittances made up 8.2% of the gross domestic product (GDP) of the Gulf states in 2016, which stood at $1,368 billion.
