Russia looking to partner with Egypt on COVID-19 vaccine production

Cairo – Mubasher: Russia is looking to partner with Egypt in producing its coronavirus (COVID-19) vaccine, branded Sputnik V, the Russian ambassador in Cairo, Georgy Borisenko, revealed, according to the Middle East News Agency (MENA).

The Russian Direct Investment Fund (RDIF), responsible for vaccine production and overseas promotion, is willing to discuss the transfer of the vaccine technology to Egypt, Borisenko said on Wednesday.

At least 20 countries have expressed interest in receiving the Russian vaccine, including the UAE, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Mexico, he added.

Russia has become the first country in the world to grant regulatory approval to a COVID-19 vaccine, out of total 165 potential vaccines being developed workdwide.

RDIF has allocated an additional funding of $45 million to the vaccine, developed by Moscow’s Gamaleya Institute in five months, Borisenko added.
