Russia to cooperate with KSA in Kingdom’s nuclear programme

Riyadh – Mubasher: Russia's State Atomic Energy Corporation (Rosatom) on Thursday said it signed roadmap with Saudi Arabia to cooperate in nuclear power peaceful usage.

“Evgeny Pakermanov, President of Rusatom Overseas (subsidiary of ROSATOM responsible for promoting Russian nuclear technologies in overseas markets) and Dr. Maher Abdullah Alodan, Chief Atomic Energy Officer of K.A.CARE, signed the document on behalf of Russia and Saudi Arabia respectively,” according to statement.

This agreement aims to enhance collaboration between the two nations in the fields which they agreed about previously during the Saudi King Salman bin Abdulaziz's visit to Russia.

“Russia and Saudi Arabia intend to cooperate in the field of small and medium reactors that could be used for both power generation and water desalination,” the statement added.

The two countries plan to collaborate in training staff who work in the Saudi nuclear industry and to develop the Kingdom nuclear infrastructure.

Russia discusses with Saudi Arabia the possibility of establishing a nuclear science and technology centre in the Kingdom based on a Russian-design research reactor.
