S. Korea’s Hyundai Rotem mulls expansion in Egypt

Cairo – Mubasher: South Korea-based Hyundai Rotem is considering the provision of trains to Cairo Metro’s Line 3, as well as the development of railways and rail freight system in Egypt.

In January, the South Korean company has been awarded the supplement of 48 rail cars for Cairo Metro’s line 2, in addition to $135.3 million maintenance, from Egypt’s National Authority for Tunnels (NAT).

Hyundai Rotem seeks to pump new investments into the automobile sector in the North African nation, according to a statement by the Egyptian investment ministry.

The company considers expansion in Egypt following the recent economic reforms and measures taken by the Egyptian government to improve the business environment.

This came during a meeting between Egypt’s investment minister Sahar Nasr and the company’s representative on the sidelines of the Egyptian-Korean business Forum held on Tuesday.
