S. Korea’s KHNP to provide maintenance services for UAE’s Barakah nuclear power plant

UAE – Mubasher: Abu Dhabi-based Nawah Energy Company has signed a long-term maintenance services agreement (LTMSA) with Korea Hydro and Nuclear Power Plant (KHNP), Business Korea reported.

Under the agreement, maintenance services will be provided to the four South Korean-technology APR1400 reactors under development at the Barakah site in Abu Dhabi.

The five-year term contract could be extended based on mutual agreement by the KHNP consortium and Nawah.

The KHNP consortium is being bolstered by the South Korean nuclear power plant maintenance service provider Korea Plant Service and Engineering (KPS).

Chung Jae-hoon, president and CEO of KHNP, said: “KHNP will assign high-level officials and outstanding technical experts to the Barakah plant to support successful maintenance of the Barakah plant. The consortium also will spare no efforts to support UAE’s endeavors to build its internal capability for nuclear power plant operation.”

In the same vein, Nawah Energy Co has signed another maintenance service agreement (MSA) with the South Korean heavy industrial company Doosan Heavy Industries and Construction (DHIC), a subsidiary of the Doosan Group, for the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.

Under the agreement, DHIC will offer Nawah a variety of maintenance services and qualified manpower to support routine and outage maintenance activities across the four 1,400-megawatt APR1400 Units at the Barakah Nuclear Energy Plant.
