SAGO issues tender to import 720K tonnes of feed barley

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has issued this year’s seventh tender to import 720,000 tonnes of feed barley to be supplied between January and February 2021.

Governor of SAGO, Ahmad A. Al-Fares, stated that the amount specified in the tender is distributed to 12 shipments; 8 shipments of 480,000 tonnes to be delivered to the Kingdom’s ports on the Red Sea and 4 shipments of 240,000 tonnes to the Kingdom’s ports on the Arabian Gulf, according to a statement on Thursday.

This tender comes as an extension to the GCC country’s efforts to meet the local demand for feed barley and maintain its strategic reserve, as preparations are made to enable the private sector to import barley in a bid to increase its contribution to the Saudi economy in tandem with Vision 2030.

Year-to-date (YTD), SAGO has contracted to import 5 million tonnes, Al-Fares added.
