Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Grains Organization (SAGO) has issued this year’s fifth tender to import 600,000 tonnes of wheat to be supplied during the period between February and March 2021.
SAGO Governor, Ahmad Al Fares, said the quantity specified in the tender is distributed on 10 shipments; with six shipments to be delivered to Jeddah Islamic Port and four shipments to be delivered to King Abdulaziz Port in Dammam, according to an official statement on Thursday.
He added that this batch comes within SAGO’s plan to maintain the strategic reserve of wheat and meet the local demand from the milling companies.
Earlier this year, SAGO has contracted to import 2.2 million tonnes; 64,000 tonnes of which are produced by Saudi investments abroad. It further purchased nearly 386,000 tonnes from the local farmers' production.
