Riyadh – Mubasher: Total assets levelled down 8.3% year-on-year during December 2017, the Saudi Arabian Monetary Authority (SAMA) stated in a report.
The SAMA’s assets stood at SAR 1.903 trillion ($507.64 billion) in December 2017, compared to SAR 2.076 trillion ($553.83 billion) in the same period a year earlier, the report added.
The Saudi body ascribed the drop to the fall of investments in overseas securities which tumbled 8.8% to SAR 1.244 trillion.
Investments in overseas securities represented 65.4% of SAMA’s total assets in December 2017.
SAMA’s deposits at foreign banks went down 5.8% to SAR 377.97 billion.
The Saudi central bank’s deposits abroad made up 19.9% of its total assets.
On a monthly basis, total assets edged down 0.4% to SAR 1.903 trillion in December, from SAR 1.911 trillion a month earlier.
