Riyadh – Mubasher: Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) emphasised that it seeks to adopt clean energy options and carbon emission reductions in all of its projects in an effort to save the environment.
The company’s environment protection vision is in line with the kingdom’s vision 2030 and supports the Saudi approach to diversify the national economy. Through its accelerated strategic transformation programme, the company tries to attain leadership in the field of nationwide environment protection, according to a statement on Wednesday.
SEC said it invests huge amounts of money to control emissions, utilising advanced combustion devices, which lower nitrogen oxides (NOx) emissions and electrostatic precipitators (ESP), and the Seawater FGD technology to control sulfur oxides emissions.
The firm is also executing projects with the goal to raise combined-cycle generation capacity from plants at Al Qassim, Duba, Hail, Waad Al Shamal, and Northern Al Qassim, among other areas, by more than 4.2 gigawatts (GW) to save around 60 million oil barrels per year and reduce carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions by nearly 25.8 million tonnes per year.
Since the Saudi Vision 2030 was announced, SEC and the Saudi Company for Energy Purchase have been closely working with competent bodies in the energy ministry to develop plans and initiatives to implement renewable energy projects of a 27.3 GW capacity over the coming five years.
