SEC inks 3 deals with Chinese tech firms

Riyadh – Mubasher: The Saudi Electricity Company (SEC) on Sunday signed three memorandums of understanding (MoUs) with Chinese companies to collaborate in various technological projects.

SEC inked a contract with Huawei to cooperate on technological transformation, smart networks, information security, and innovation sectors.

This collaboration will contribute to nationalising smart industries in the kingdom, the firm’s deputy CEO Waleed Al-Saadi said.

Dawiyat Integrated Telecommunications and Information Technology, which is a wholly-owned subsidiary of SEC, signed a deal with Huawei to cooperate in the optical fibres sector.

These contracts were signed on the sidelines of the Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman’s visit to China.

Earlier on Sunday, the Saudi Ministry of Hajj and Umrah announced a partnership with Huawei Technologies to develop smartphone apps and internet and TV channels to improve the quality of digital services and Muslims’ pilgrimage experience while practicing Umrah and Hajj.

Bin Salman begun his visit to China on Thursday, where he discussed means of enhancing joint relations between the two Asian nations.

On Friday, Saudi Arabia and China signed 35 deals worth a combined $28 billion (SAR 104.98 billion), while Aramco alone signed a $10 billion (SAR 37.50 billion) contract with China’s Norinco to develop a refining and petrochemical complex in Panjin.
